🎯 Redirect Support in Pokémon Champions: Follow Me & Rage Powder

How to use Follow Me and Rage Powder effectively in Pokémon Champions doubles — protecting setup sweepers, key users like Amoonguss, and how opponents counter it.

Redirect moves are among the most important support tools in competitive doubles. Follow Me and Rage Powder force all single-target moves to hit the redirect user instead of their original target — effectively acting as a human (or mushroom) shield for your attacker.

How Redirect Works

When a Pokémon uses Follow Me or Rage Powder, all single-target moves from opposing Pokémon are redirected to that user for the rest of that turn. This is incredibly powerful for protecting fragile setup sweepers or important support Pokémon.

Amoonguss: The Premier Redirect User

Amoonguss is the best redirect Pokémon in Pokémon Champions. It has Rage Powder for redirection, Spore (100% accuracy sleep) to shut down key targets, and Regenerator to recover HP when swapping out. Standard set: Rage Powder, Spore, Pollen Puff, Protect.

Key Redirect Interactions

  • Grass-types bypass Rage Powder: Grass-type Pokémon are immune to powder moves including Rage Powder — they can freely target your partner even when Amoonguss uses Rage Powder. Use Follow Me (Clefable) instead against Grass-type opponents. Note: Ghost-type moves do NOT bypass Follow Me or Rage Powder in modern VGC (Gen 6+).
  • Spread moves bypass redirect entirely: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Heat Wave, and other spread moves can't be redirected — they hit everything regardless.
  • Lightning Rod / Storm Drain: These abilities function like passive Follow Me for Electric and Water moves respectively — great for pairing with Electric or Water weak partners.

Who to Pair With Redirect

Redirect support is most valuable for Pokémon that need a turn to set up or that die quickly to focused attacks.

  • Flutter Mane: Frail but hits hard. Amoonguss redirect lets it safely use Calm Mind or Moonblast without being targeted.
  • Mega Pokémon: Give your Mega a safe turn to act by redirecting away the most threatening attack.
  • Trick Room setters: Redirect in front of Hatterene ensures TR gets set before the setter is targeted.

💡 Tip: Amoonguss's Spore can sleep an opponent's entire strategy. Use it on the opposing support Pokémon (Incineroar, opposing Amoonguss) to remove their Fake Out or redirect for the rest of the match.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Follow Me and Rage Powder?

Follow Me is a Normal-type redirection move usable by many Pokémon including Clefable. Rage Powder is a Bug-type version exclusive to grass/mushroom Pokémon like Amoonguss. In modern VGC (Gen 6+), BOTH moves redirect all single-target moves including Ghost-type moves — there is no Ghost-type bypass. The key difference: Grass-type Pokémon are immune to Rage Powder and can still target freely, but Grass-types are NOT immune to Follow Me.

Can redirect moves protect against spread moves?

No — spread moves like Earthquake and Rock Slide hit all Pokémon on the field and cannot be redirected. Redirect only works against single-target moves.

Does Follow Me work against Urshifu's moves?

Yes — both Surging Strikes and Wicked Blow are redirected by Follow Me and Rage Powder in modern VGC. Urshifu's Unseen Fist bypasses Protect, but it does not bypass redirection moves.
